Chaplaincy
The chaplaincy team provides inspiration and challenge for the spiritual side of young people's lives. We mainly work in local secondary schools to support their provision of spiritual development within the curriculum and the wider school community.
Every young person, whether from a faith background or not, can have a spiritual dimension to their life. Finding a safe and inspiring context to explore this is a crucial part of a young person's personal development. Schools are given the task of fostering this as part of the government's requirement to provide spiritual, moral, social and cultural development for all students.
LCET's chaplaincy team offer a Christian perspective on spiritual development, working sensitively and appropriately with young people from all faiths and backgrounds.
The aim is to contribute towards three outcomes:
1. Develop spiritual literacy: helping young people begin to give voice to their spiritual questions, beliefs and ideas.
2. Understand spiritual life: giving young people vivid examples of spirituality in practice and encouraging them to engage with them using their critical thinking skills.
3. Explore Christian spirituality: giving young people a safe and non-judgemental space to explore spiritual belief and practice from the Christian tradition.
We offer a wide variety of input within the curriculum, including RE theme days, school assemblies, spiritual literacy work within English and contributing to RE and PHSE. We also develop wider school projects using art within school buildings to provide opportunities for students to reflect and explore spiritual themes.
We have close links with other professionals in Luton, including the Local Authority. Our work is well known and supported by local schools and colleges, and by Children and Learning services within the Council.
